About Cesar......

CESAR JULIUS ROMERO JR ......was born in New York City on February 15, 1907....His father, Cesar Sr, was a sugar machinery export business executive, married to the Cuban concert singer, Maria Mantilla Romero..... Cesar, the grandson of Cuban liberator and poet, Jose Marti, arrived on the Hollywood scene in the early 1930s....A professional dancer, he was a resourceful actor as well and was kept steadily busy in either movies or TV from then on.....Altho he never achieved major star status, the six-foot-three, self-described ”Latin From Manhattan” by 1942, was one of Hollywood’s most successful and sought after actors.....Early on, he played gangster, comedy and romantic type roles....Then he played the starring role in six Cisco Kid westerns beginning in 1939....

When our nation went to war, so did Cesar Romero....In October 1942, he enlisted in the US Coast Guard in Long Beach, California....He was immediately assigned to an attack transport, the USS CAVALIER (APA-37).....He saw action in Saipan and Tinian and moved up in rank to Chief Boatswain’s Mate....

After the war, he went back to 20th Century Fox and resumed his movie career.....then on to TV......He had his own series in 1954 playing the part of a diplomatic courier in ”Passport to Danger”......then, during the 1950s and 60s, he made appearances in westerns, variety shows, comedies, game shows, mysteries, etc.......In the mid sixties, he played The Joker in both the Batman TV show and the movie.....A role he loved doing!......he then starred in a string of Disney movies and, in his later years, played opposite longtime friend, Jane Wyman, in FALCON CREST...as her tycoon husband, Peter Stavros......
