Description
Edit for headphones. In 1967 a # 2 hit in the UK, # 22 in Germany, # 13 in Holland. Though the other three members of the band didn’t like this song, it became their biggest hit. The child’s voice is of the daughter of the record producer that had discovered The Spencer Davis Group, the group that Steve Winwood had left before joining Traffic. Traffic was formed in April 1967 and was: Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood and Dave Mason. They started as a psychedelic rock group. After disbanding in 1969, during which time Steve Winwood joined Blind Faith, Traffic reunited in 1970. The band’s line-up then varied until they disbanded again in 1975. A partial reunion, with Winwood and Capaldi, took place in 1994.

In 2004, Traffic was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

HOLE IN MY SHOE
(Dave Mason)

I looked to the sky where an elephant’s eye
Was looking at me from a bubblegum tree
And all that I knew was the hole in my shoe which
Was letting in water
(Letting in water)

I walked through a field that just wasn’t real
With 100 tin soldiers which stood at my shoulder
And all that I knew was the hole in my shoe which
Was letting in water
(Letting in water)

I climbed on the back of a giant albatross
Which flew through a crack in the cloud
To a place where happiness reigned all year round
Where music played ever so loudly

I started to fall and suddenly woke
And the dew on the grass had soaked through my coat
And all that I knew was the hole in my shoe which
Was letting in water
(Letting in water)
