edit for headphones. just some more bass on this one... but i warn you: too much at some places, i know! i know! april 23, 1969, almost two years after the beatles released their song, joe cocker had a world wide hit with this cover.

jimmy page played guitar, barrie james wilson (procol harum) played drums, and a gospel choir sang background. (it is said that merry clayton was among the choir.) tommy eyre (blind faith) and stevie winwood (taffic) played organ. joe’s performance of this song at woodstock in 1969 was his big brakethrough.

joe was born may 20, 1944. he attended sheffield central technical school in england and worked as a gas fitter for the east midlands gas board. his first group was the cavaliers in 1959. he was the drummer and harmonica player. When he moved to lead vocals in 1961 they changed their name to vance arnold and the avengers. they toured some with the rolling stones and the hollies. joe got started by trying to emulate ray charles. he was a big fan and was impressed with ray’s talent. joe: "moving my hand around is subconscious with me. a lot of the time i’m more or less conducting the band, just keeping a feel. i don’t know why i do it. it’s just one of those things." joe cocker died december 22, 2014 at age 70.

WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS
(John Winston Lennon/Paul James Mccartney)

What would you do if I sang out of tune
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song
And I’ll try not to sing out of key

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends
Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends

What do I do when my love is away
(Does it worry you to be alone?)
How do I feel by the end of the day
(Are you sad because you’re on your own?)

No, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends
Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends

Do you need anybody
I need somebody to love
Could it be anybody
I want somebody to love

Would you believe in a love at first sight
Yes, I’m certain that it happens all the time
What do you see when you turn out the light
I can’t tell you but I know it’s mine

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends
Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends

Do you need anybody
I
Could it be anybody
I want somebody to love
