Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the sour cream and milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

Divide the cake batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the cakes are cooling, prepare the cream filling. In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread a layer of the cream filling on top of one of the cakes. Place the second cake on top and frost the top and sides with the remaining cream filling.

You can decorate the cake with fresh berries, chocolate shavings, or any other toppings of your choice.

Slice and enjoy your delicious homemade cream cake!
